If you ask the Estonian tourist board for brochures, they will send you a booklet showing the restaurants in Tallinn.

We received this. Quite a big choice of where to eat.

We ate at Olde Hansa one night and really enjoyed it. It's a medieval restaurant with the waiters/waitresses dressed up, candle light, etc. Sounds tacky but it isn't. It's got a website, but not sure what it is.

There is a garlic restaurant, Balthazar, I think it is. We didn't eat there so can't let you know what it's like.

Good luck.

I break the restaurants down into these categories:

Theme Restaurants:

Olde Hansa, Peppersack, Beer House,

Restaurants that targets tourists industry. You go there for the show, medieval aspect, Costumes of the staff, quality of food is a different issue).

Other recommodations:

If you want better quality food with an estonian flavour, I would recommend Maikrahv restaurant or Balthasar (garlic) restaurant. Dont get me wrong the other places are great just in my option the consistancy of quality of food is up and down. So I forgot Grandmother Kitchen, is very popular and have only heard good things.

Restaurant O, Bocca, Egoist, KN, Gloria, Pegasus, Stenhaus.

You go there for the excellant quality of food

Other Recommendations:

Other small restaurants located around the Old Town.

Other popular places to go to. Cafe Moscow

I didn't enjoy the Olde Hansa, it's quite commercialised and the food, unlike the menu that tempts you, is quite bland. Vanaema Juures was wonderful, the food, service and price is well worth a visit. It is a small and popular restaurant so you do normally have to book. Enjoy your stay!
