I have read a number of reviews in the Slovakian forums and there seems to be a number of quite knowledgeable people on the area - so I'm looking for your advice!
My partner and I have 9 full days in June - Looking at flying into Budapest and out of Bratislava.
From reading forums Budapest appears to warrant 3 decent days to really appreciate the city, we will be staying with friends which I am sure will be of an advantage.
We will then venture out on our own heading to the High/Low Tatras for some hiking. Both very fit and relatively experienced hikers.
I have researched trains times and am happy with that, however I have a couple of concerns;
1) I have read on many websites that a lot of the High Tatra routes will be closed until the 15th June. As we will be there literally the week before - is there quite strict rules on this, or does it depend on the conditions at the time whether they will open the track or not? We would be looking at doing the more moderate/difficult 1 day hikes, however appreciate the safety aspect of this.
2) In the case that many of the decent tough routes will be closed - are we better to head to the Low Tatras and appreciate this more doing the Dumbier and Chopok? Or are there certain routes that are still well worth doing? Or is it possible to go to both High and Low Tatras?
3) Looking at about 4 days in the Mountains before heading back to Bratislava. Again staying with friends, however from reading 1 and a half days appears to be enough if we can spend that bit more time in the mountains?
This is getting quite wordy now - I am really after some clarification on the weather conditions and closures of the tracks as I don't want to be disappointed upon arriving and been unable to do quality hiking.
Any information will be valuable. Thanks heaps!
