Budapest 14 days

My partner and i are coming to Budapest in early September for 14 days. We want to visit the city of course in great detail but want to visit outside the city also using public transport or organised tours. Can anyone suggest places to visit,

Also is it worth buying a metro, tram tickets. We will be staying in the Andrassy Avenue area.

Thanks

One trip we enjoyed was taking the train to the Valley of Beautiful Women which must have the best name of anything, tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g274891-d5…

And the boat to Szentendre which is described here getyourguide.com/budapest-l29/…

As you have lots of time a visit to Pecs is doable - it really needs an overnight stop, or two. The wine region of Villany is nearby, which can be reached by bus to Villany itself.

And you also have time for a trip to Vienna, which deserves at least one, possibly two nights stop: alternatively one night in Vienna and spend a night in Sopron on the way there or back. Vienna is only 150 miles from Bpest, but they are totally different places.

Doable in a day: Eger, Szepaszonyvolgy (the valley of the beautiful women) is just outside the town. You can go by bus or train to Eger.

The season at Lake Balaton will be winding down, which means it is nicer as there are less people around.

Be careful about tours, they have habit of taking you somewhere like Esztergom for 10 minutes, then 2 hours in a porcelain factory where you are expected to buy.

And yes, but tram/bus/metro tickets, better still a pass. http://www.bkv.hu/en/

There is a book called Only in Budapest by Duncan J smith, which has 2-3 pages each about loads of places to see in Bpest. The instructions to get to each place are also given, though they may be out of date - it was published in 2006. It can be found on Amazon - he also wrote one called Only in Vienna.
