Scottish kilt hire/rental in Poznan area

Arriving in Poznan 24/05/13 for a wedding on 31/05/13.

Is there anywhere in the Poznan area I could hire a kilt/rent a kilt outfit?

I can hire one here in Scotlandbut then I have to factor in Ryanair baggage prices (or wear it on the flight) as well as the kilt rental price as well as and extra 5-10 pounds a day for every day more than the normal 4 day hire (which can easily double the price).

I could get girlfriend to phone company with sizes or get a family member to pop in to shop.

Cheers

It's a long shot (men in skirts - not such a big thing here...) but try a fancy dress shop.

Hi Sugarkane,

the answer is simple and sad: no. There would be no customers here. I thought about buying a kilt in Glasgow but in Poland there are no occasions to wear it :) At least, winter in kilt here would be a killing time ;)

Thanks for the replies.

First of all As the old saying goes, "It is only a skirt if you are wearing underwear" ;-) Oops, there goes our national secret.

Secondly, you will be surprised how warm they are, I even wore one to watch an ice hockey match in America.

Thirdly, You should have bought one when in Glasgow, there are lots of occasions you can wear them and a a great way of starting a conversation as you will always be asked about it. (Only thing you have to worry about is women (especially older ones) walking up behind you and lifting it up to have a peek to see what you are/are not wearing underwear). They do not even bother to ask permission!

While we are on the dressing up topic, I know there is a flea market in Stara rzeznia which sometimes has the odd bit of old military surplus stuff such as Polish/Warsaw Pact uniforms, hats and badges. Is there any other places in or around Poznan which might have similar stuff?

I was up Kolobzerg a few years back and there is a military surplus place up there I loved but a bit away so was wondering if there are other options (girlfriend is from Poznan and we will have access to a car).

I think the best shot would be to contact some major theaters in Poznan. That's what I usually do if I need some unusual dress - they should also have some kilts in their costume repository. I'm not a Poznan local, but you (or some Polish speaker you know) can try:

http://www.teatr-polski.pl/

http://www.teatrnowy.pl/

http://www.opera.poznan.pl/

http://www.ptt-poznan.pl/

and there is probably much more.

Thanks for the tips, will come in handy, I will get my girlfriend or her family to call.

Have to admit, until I met my girlfriend I knew very little about Poland but my eyes have been truly opened as to what a beautiful and historic country it is. An awful lot of "Krecik's" though, you can hardly go ten paces without almost falling down one of his tunnels!! ;-)

Hi Sugarcane,

after your post I'll definitely buy a kilt next time. I hope it will be not a shame for Scots :) And wearing it with underwear - what's a point? ;)

Re old/military stuff - I'm not an expert, but only Stara Rzeźnia comes to my mind. As far as I know, there are some antics shop opened regular business times. Military surplus shops are popular along the coast - many soviet bases were located there.

Have a great time here,

Best
