Flights to el catey

got back last week from el portillo - loved it! dont think we can think of any real faults and would love to return. the problem is the flight now going to puerto plata and the 4 hour transfer. does anyone know if this is a seasonal thing and the direct flights will be back next year, or is it permanent? i just could not face that transfer after a long flight :-(

Unfortunately Thomson schedule is only to fly into Puerto Plata for the forseeable future. They have no intentions on the radar to fly into El Catey but as with all routes these schedules can change once they have the full fleet of Dreamliner delivered.

We were booked to fly into POP this year for our holiday in Samana in May, however a little after Christmas Thomson contacted us and asked if we would change our flight day from Sunday to Thursday and fly into El Catay, they have always stated that they dont fly into El Catay because they 'lost their slot' but as El Catay only host 1 or 2 flights per day, dont see this, am assuming other commercial reasons, perhaps something to do with other freight contracts or cheaper to bus the Samana customers from POP than put on another route also the crews need to be overnighted and moved from POP to Samana and vica versa. Not so bad on the way out but knowing about the transfer on the way home, especially if you have a long drive from Gatwick would make me think twice.

hope they do reconsider. seen from a couple of new reviews that people weren't told of the long transfer and they had only gone for a week. its normally about 1 1/2 hours drive for us to gatwick. this time we were caught in the traffic because of the big accident on the M3 and it took us 5 hours. we got there 10mins before the flight closed, and 17 others missed it :-( that defineatly put us off a long transfer the other side!

I also rescheduled a trip to the Samana area after finding out we were flying into POP instead of El Catey . Having done two day trips in past visits to Cayo Leventada and Samana Bay from PP..... the 4 hour transfer after a long flight was a def no goer.

I'm really disappointed as it's such a beautiful part of the DR but as the years roll on we want less hassle not more... Lol

maybe if bookings drop to samana because of the transfer time thomson might rethink the situation. still it was only our first time to DR so we'll have to look at some other areas to visit.
