Fogg Dam question

I am interested in seeing the Fogg Dam area. Is this easily accesible from a car park? How far off the highway is this? Is there a boardwalk, or path, or trail to walk around to view the Fogg Dam? If so, how long does it take to walk around and view the sights and wildlife of Fogg Dam? Thank you.

Hi swdke,

not far from the highway. There is a carpark close to a viewing platform. There are also walks starting along the road in to the viewing area. You drive across the dam causeway on the way in. We stayed 3 nights at a nearby B&B but we didn't see as many birds at fogg dam as we expected due to a late wet season etc (shouldn't be a problem when you're there).

The biggest thing to see there is the birdlife. Early as possible in the morning is best. I think we spent about an hour or so on the walks but we didn't do all of them we were getting eaten alive despite our insect repellent.. If you're not a birdwatcher I wouldn't allocate more than an hour or so there to be honest.

There were 2 board walks which started at the car park just before you cross the earth wall. One has been closed for at least a year but the government has finally budgeted for the maintenance work to be carried out, probably will not be finished until after the Wet, However this would not bring you to the main area where the wading birds are to be sighted, but you are more likely to see the smaller forest dwellers.

The car park on the other side of the earthen wall is by a viewing tower.

The best months to see the wading birds is at the end of the Dry say October to December as the waterholes have dried up so the birds flock to here. Omce the rain start then there is food available all over the Top end so the birds spread out.
