New Resort - Qualia

Hi All

Well whilst not for the average visitor, I got to have a look around the new 5 star resort on HI ... Qualia !!!!!!!!!

The resort is located at the end of the road on the northern tip and is entered via large Timber security gates and when they open you feel you are entering Aladdin's Cave .. not sure what is on the other side

The villas facing north are finished but the villas facing West are still being built

When we entered the main lobby area we were greeted with the most amazing view of the Whitsundays laid out before you .. the whole front was opened to the breeze with a fabulous pool a step down from the main lounge area .. definitely not a place to venture if you have had a few too many drinks

We then drove down to the beach area where a sandy beach has been "created" with all types of water sports and gym facing the islands all laid out before you ... a huge pool is also there with not a soul in site ..

From there we had a look at one of the villas ... all are separate with your own 2 person golf buggy parked alongside

Inside is a lovely outdoor area with own plunge pool and day bed and inside a large lounge area, kitchenette for coffee, huge big bed set to face the sea and then the bathroom with the bath tub set right in front of the window .. we could only look and imagine

All villas are set so that no one can see in .. we just sighed and tried to imagine ourselves spending time here .. champagne was all laid out .. there is also a small balcony here with a glass door which shortly will be replaced with a glass door that goes down into the floor so you can step out and smell the flowers if you so wish

The spa was being used but we were assured that it also is out of this world

The resort is currently full and at $1600.00 pp per night (that's the price I had read previously, the brochure didn't have any prices and I didn't want to blow my cover by discussing money) .. well what can I say .. not for the faint hearted

All meals and non-alcoholic beverages are included as well as all water sports and activities .. you can eat in the restaurant or have room service or if you prefer to eat at a restaurant on the island, these meals are also included

I guess only time will tell if HI can support such a luxurious 5 star Resort ... unfortuneately not in my price bracket but lovely to dream

Thanks Abbey for your report, I have read some wonder things about Qualia in the G/Traveller magazine.......hefty price tag.... it would certainly suit honeymooner's looking for something unique, private and special.

I think I'll opt for the yacht, at those prices !

We took quite a few photos as well .. even the bathtub

Thank goodness the toilet was behind closed doors ... definitely not a sight you would want to share .. not even sure about the bathtub in front of the window .. would feel like a real exhibitionist, even if you couldnt be seen

$1600pp....yikes... (perhaps this is per couple as it would pull it into line with say Bedarra and Lizard?)

I did a bit of research 2 weeks back (I had been in the TA and his assistant showed me the brochure ...POA...mmmm I guess they are leaving it flexible to see how many guests they get in?)

I gather its a fair hike down to the beach? Any snorkelling?

Thanks for a great insiders report....that's dedication!

Abbey,

just had another look at the website it's been updated since I last looked..the rooms are $1600 per couple and $1400 for the west facing rooms... $3000 for the beach house.

While the actual price is not dissimlar to the 5 stars furhter north (start at about $1200pn) its the non inclusions...ie Lizard etc includes alcohol, dinghy etc make it a hefty slug in comparison...

With those type of rates and no business class I wonder if it will attract the necessary clientele on a permanent basis?

ps I like the surreptiusly place bottle of wine......Oatley > : (

Hi GW

Whilst on island, we also had an "inspection" of The Reef Hotel and the Beach Club "all in the name of research of course"

and at both we were told you need to check with the booking office as the staff dont quote prices

So I know I was a bit of a coward and didn't ask the lovely young man who was showing us around as I thought that prices would probably vary depending on when and whom made the booking

So glad they have revised it to per couple ... and yes we did ask was the wine Oatley and it was OF COURSE

Yes you do drive down to the beach but as everyone has their own cute little 2 seater electric buggy no drama and to be honest to have your own little beach with might I say a couple of gorgeous young beach attendants looking after you .. well

Their was a gentleman snorkelling out the front .. it is still tidal but looked very inviting at high tide

A number of sailing boats were lined up on the beach .. we did wonder about this as maybe one of the attendants takes you out as the beach is right on the very tip and as this is the main thoroughfare through the passage you wouldnt want someone taking off in a strong breeze

We were told they will be having a larger vessel to take guests to beaches nearby

So I think they have it pretty well covered .. if it is $1600.00 per couple with the plunge pool that certainly is much better than times 2

It was truly breathtaking and being up high the views ... well I would just sit there all day (with an oatley's in hand) and gaze away the day

Actually Adelaide

It was pretty easy and they were very obliging

They had had an open day early in October but I rang and said I had some friends who were very interested (was thinking of GW here, so dont let me down GW, we are relying on you to be our first staying visitor) and an escorted visit was arranged

We had our own personal tour and I was very grateful and they didnt mind us taking some photos ... so all in all a great experience (and they were fully booked so some clever marketing has taken place)

We also mind had a look at a $6,000,000.00 penthouse going up for auction ... WOW .. that had to be seen to be believed
