5D4N in April 2009

5D4N in April 2010, not 2009!

Hello everyone, thanks in advance for helping. I posted a few months ago about my 5D4N trip to Launceston and now I have booked flights and accommodation. My partner will be driving (he enjoys long drives). We are a couple aged 25 and 28.

Please comment and do recommend pit-stops, activities or restaurants. Also, without adding too much time to our itinerary, are there scenic routes we could take to our destinations?

The following is our itinerary I have created with the help of some Tripadvisor contributors (thank you!):

DAY 1

* Arrive in Launceston by 8.30am

* Pick up car

* Stop by supermarket & stock up - 9.0 km - about 10 mins

* Pyengana (Cheese Factory, St Columba Falls, Holy Cow Cafe) - 123 km - about 1 hour 41 mins

* Binalong Bay (Bay of Fires) - 37.7 km - about 31 mins

* St. Helens - overnight @ Bayside Inn - 10.7 km - about 10 mins

TOTAL DRIVING = 180.4 km - about 152 mins (2 hr 32 mins)

DAY 2

* Depart St. Helens

* Coles Bay (Freycinet Wineglass Bay) - 113.6km - about 88 mins (1 hr 28 mins)

* Bicheno - overnight @ Wintersun Gardens Motel - 37.4 km - about 29 mins

TOTAL DRIVING = 189.8 km - about 117 mins (2 hr)

DAY 3

* Depart Bicheno

* Campbelltown (Convict Brick Trail) - 143.4 km - about 112 mins (1 hr 52 mins)

* Deloraine - overnight @ Holiday House from stayz.com.au - 97.0 km - about 1 hour 15 mins

TOTAL DRIVING = 240.4 km - about 187 mins (3 hr 18 mins)

DAY 4

* Depart Deloraine

* Mole Creek - 24.3 km - about 23 mins

* Cradle Mountain - overnight @ Lemonthyme Lodge - 80.4 km - about 1 hour 6 mins

TOTAL DRIVING = 104.7 km - about 89 mins (1 hr 29 mins)

DAY 5

* Depart Cradle Mountain

* Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm - 89.0 km - about 1 hour 17 mins

* Depart Launceston by 7pm (maybe Cataract Gorge) - 55.7 km - about 46 mins

TOTAL DRIVING = 144.7 km - about 123 mins (2 hr 3 mins)

ABSOLUTE TOTAL DRIVING TIME = more than 10 hours

Thanks again for your help.

For those whom are curious, this 5D4N trip (not including food and shopping) costs $537 per person - includes return flights from Melbourne, car hire, park entry passes (Freycinet & Cradle Mountain) and accommodation.

Sorry for this late response, but I have a query for Luigi.

As we are staying at St Helen's for a few nights during our trip. late april. I googled 'Margots" st helen's. The site Best Restaurants has it now listed as being closed!!!!!

If this is the case, it looks like we are going to miss out on some great french cuisine!

Any other recommendations for St Helen's then??

Cheers

Yes, Flossy. Angasi at Binalong Bay. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but good food.

thanks Luigi, I will add this to my notes. Have booked "St Helen's on the Bay"- 3 bedroom unit, top floor of a 2 storey house for 3 nights. Looking forward to seeing some new and yet previous seen sights on our return 14 day trip.

Cheers

Here's a (slightly out of date) article from the Hobart Mercury on restaurants in St Helens. themercury.com.au/article/2009/02/01/52795_f…
