I am searching for a kayaking company to provide guided kayak tours of Stewart Island (whaling station, etc) for November.

I tried Ruggedy Range but they do not have any guaranteed departures. Another company Rakiura Kayaks is in the middle of selling itself and is closed. Other companies offer ferries and charters not kayaking.

Are there so few options for Stewart Island given it's environment ?

Does anyone have any alternate suggestions for kayaking ?

The tourist numbers are probably too low to support many tours in the off season. Lots of great hikes; or a full/half day trip by Water taxi to Ulva Island (bird sanctuary). The best tour is to fly into Martins Bay, stay overnight to see the kiwi and hike out to Oban next day with a water taxi pick-up. Stewart Island Air can organise this for you.
