Need help with a place to stay in Rotorua

I'm planning our honeymoon trip to New Zealand (April 2008) and we plan to 3 nights in Rotorua. Our travel agent will only recommend two places: Koura Lodge and Novatel. Koura Lodge is a bit to expensive @ $295 NZD/night. (Our budget will go up to $200 NZD/night) I can't get excited about Novatel from the reviews on here. What other places do people suggest? It would be nice to be walking distance to shops/restaurants.

Thanks,

Chris

We stayed in the Tresco B&B about 10 mins walk from the centre, the owner is a complete character and absolutely makes any stay different. This B&B had 7 bedrooms so he had dedicated one room as a residents ining room/lounge, with tea and coffee, biscuits etc available. There was a laundry and plenty of parking either on site or on the road. Any trips or advice he can help with. There is even a private mineral pool that you can soak in.

We paid NZ$150/night and this included a very good breakfast. This was our most expensive stay of the holiday but definitely one of the most memorable.

There are several good B & Bs and rental cottages in Rotorua. Have a look at www.athomeinrotorua.co.nz for websites. Many websites have an availability option so you can check whether there are vacancies for the dates you want.
