Auckland-living advice

There was a similar thread which I did read. I am a single femme 43 possibly temp. relocating in Aukland and need to know when the best times to go are weather wise and which parts of the city as well as NZ to avoid. And any other advice...

Thank you much for any feedback!

Summertime is the best weather for Auckland. From mid October until mid May when temps are warmer are the nicest months, with late January til early March being the apex (supposedly - if weather predictions are on target).

Best to remain in the company of others you know/trust when venturing in/around the CBD and bars late at night. If you gain a sense/impression that somewhere feels dodgy to you, best trust your instincts. The high majority of the time NZ is safe. The few ratbags that ruin our safety for the rest of us unfortunately make it to the media.

Happy travels.

Hi

The weather in New Zealand is very changeable but the best time would be from October to April/May unless of course you want snow for winter sports. January and February are normally when the weather is at its best - this last summer was to say the least not so good in the north island but we have had a beautiful autumn.

New Zealand can justifiably claim to be a safe country and Auckland is probably safer than many other similar sized cities. Unfortunately because of our small size incidents which would not get a mention in countries with a larger population do tend to attract the attention our media. Just this weekend there was an item on the news about drunken behaviour in the centre of Auckland on Saturday nights. I have a friend who lives in an apartment in the centre of Auckland and she says that she has never felt unsafe in the city at night. As anywhere there is always safety in numbers.

Parts of New Zealand to avoid - we have been here almost 30 years, been pretty much everywhere and can think of nowhere that we would avoid!
