You will have to decide Tauranga or Waitomo, you can't do both in a day without quite a bit of zigzagging and a long time in the car. If you're wanting to see glow worms and intend taking a tour go with Waitomo, if it's a beautiful beach then Tauranga/Mt Maunganui.

Leave Wai-O-Tapu until the next day, it's about 30 minutes south and you're half way to Taupo, saves double tracking. This leaves a full day in Rotorua (26th) -lots to do!

Unless you're really into geothermal parks leave Craters of the Moon, you will be all cratered out from your Rotorua visit!

Skip Napier, head straight down the centre, you're not going to be able to do it any kind of justice in a couple of late afternoon hours as you'll have to head off early the next day to Wellington. Nap-Well is nearly a full day trip. Either stay in Taupo or continue as far south as you can which will give you more time in Wellington.

We'll be a head of you... arriving on the 22nd.... although we're taking a slightly different route. The train trips sound good.

Here's hoping for some nice bright warm weather....... and no jetlag ;-).....

Cheers..

It should be better by October though you can still get the odd storm. Spring should be better than it is currently (She says hopefully with another storm approaching from the North!!) Bring layers though because it can get chilly.

I have just noticed that you will be in Wellington on the 29th- this is a public holiday (Labour Day), make sure you have accommodation booked(27th & 28th because of the long weekend). Te Papa may be a little busier than normal as well.
