haven't been to cocos or christmas islands yet!
i would imagine at that latitude swimming would be good all during the year.
shark activity? swimming in lagoons protected by coral reefs are normally quite safe.
i think the shark activity in WA should be put into some perspective. a number of the attacks have been related to surfers in remote areas. as surfers look for more uncrowded waves and travel further afield these incidences may well increase.
but having said that, and as a surfer of some 50 years, who has been to some pretty remote spots, i have only had three up close and personal 'meetings' with bities in that time.
u r more likely to be be killed in a road accident going to the beach than getting taken by a shark there.
