Hi Southgirl,

Have a look at this web page for more info.

http://www.broomewa.com/

its a small town, so if looking for work I suggest you find something before heading off......maybe look at getting the local paper...

Hi southgirl89, Broome is fabulous for young people, my hubbys cousin has lived and worked there for 13 years. We go up every year in Jan/ Feb.We recently sent our 19 year old daughter up there to stay for a weeks break, she absolutely adored Broome and would have loved to go and work there if she didnt have such a good job in perth. Housing is a problem apparently there is a huge rental shortage and the prices are very high. It is better to find share accomodation. The resorts are always looking for staff, they have a high turnover due to backpackers passing through, work for 6 months, then head off, so I dont think you would have a problem finding work in the high season. We speak to alot of the young workers up there and they really enjoy it, its not for everyone, I coudnt imagine working in the heat and humidity of the monsoon season, but if I was 20 years younger Id be there in a flash haha. Best of luck. Sue

There's heaps of work in Broome, but as per one of the previous letters, accommodation is a real problem. If you work for Cable Beach club, then they have purchased one of the older resorts to house their staff - looks like good fun to me. We have lived here for around 8 years and are about to move to Cairns - we're both in our mid 50's and found that you soon get used to the Wet and the humidity of the tropics. It's a very social town and I think you will enjoy it all, but, yes, housing is a real issue and many are leaving because the rentals are impossible to meet. I hope you get to experience working and living in Broome.
