What are the things that cannot be brought into Melbourne?

Hello

My friend and I will be visiting Melbourne soon. And from my understanding, there are many things which cannot be brought in.

May I know if medical oilment (which can be bought from almost anywhere in Singapore) can be brought in, as this is an essential item for my friend for headache etc.

On top of that, can we bring in things like food, packet beverages, sweets and body lotion?

Thanks alot

You may bring anything but you must declare everything.

If it goes in your mouth, it's considered food and must be declared.

This website gives a list of restricted items.

This is the incoming passenger card you will fill in.http://www.immi.gov.au/managing-australias-borders/border-security/travel/passenger-cards/_pdf/english-ipc-sample.pdf

Make sure you complete it honestly.

Hi,

Declare everything, here is a link that will assist.

You will find that most things may be purchased in Melbourne now. Gee they have even had the electrical on for some time now.

Declare everything. (Btw "food" and "medical ointment" are very vague terms.)

Can I suggest, trying to pack *everything* to bring with you as if for an expedition is overly complicated and probably unnecessary. I'd be really surprised if you can't find sweets from home, Tiger balm, etc, here, if not in our supermarkets then in our specialist grocers. Melbourne is a very large city with a very large multicultural population. Perhaps think about what you really need with you, what you need to get on arrival, what you'd like to have and can try local alternatives (sweets!) and work out how to take care of that. If you are coming soon I would be saving space in my luggage for warm clothing.

I agree with MacKnee. Bring only your clothing for cold weather and your toiletries. Melbourne has a huge multicultural population with many Asian and European stores of ALL nationalities. There is nothing worse than having to be searched by the customs authorities for foods and medications that are illegal to enter. It will only waste your time at the airport. And remember when you travel " do as the romans do"

Noting that you are from Singapore, it is probably worth mentioning that central Melbourne nowadays is very Chinese in character. There is a good busy Chinatown... Little Bourke Street... which I know has at least one Chinese Medicine store. And the Chinese community definitely spreads out beyond that street.

The odds are very good that you will find whatever obscure products you need.
