Airport to Cullen Hotel

Hi everyone, just wanting some opinions...

We are travelling to Melbourne over Easter and are staying at the Cullen Hotel in Prahran.

What is the best way to get there from the airport? We arrive at 4.30pm on Good Friday and have show booking at 8.45pm that night at the Arts Centre so can't afford to muck around for hours with transport. How bad is Starbus really? They seem to be the only shuttle service that goes door to door. Does the Skybus have a transfer service to Prahran? Not clear on their website.

Also will we struggle with public transport over the weekend due to public holidays?

Skybus hotel shuttle service only services city hotels so it's won't get you to Prahran.

To use public transport you would take the Skybus into the city then a combination of tram/bus/train which would take over an hour.

If you want to know the public transport directions have a look at http://jp.ptv.vic.gov.au

If there's 2 of you I would just take a cab. It will cost more (probably about $75 to Prahran) but you'll be at your hotel in half an hour as opposed to well over an hour is you take the public transport route.

The Skybus will run as usual over Easter, but public transport will run to a weekend timetable.

BTW, if you have a smartphone, you might find it useful to download the free PTV App - great for journey planning in Melbourne.

lol. I always find it refreshing to drive in Melbourne during Easter break as most families are away for the extended long weekend. That said, it's a different story if you're arriving a day or two BEFORE Easter - traffic is always crazier.

If you're really pressed for time, take the Skybus into Southern Cross Station, then grab a cab to Prahran. There is a cab waiting area as soon as you walk out the Station (in front of Hungry Jack). Cab fare will be approx $17 (depending on which route the cab driver takes). Otherwise, the cab fare from Tullamarine Airport to Prahran is easily $75 as mentioned above.

PS: Once you've checked in, you can easily catch a straight tram to the front of Arts Centre. There is a tram stop just outside the hotel - catch Tram 72 direct. Ride is just 15mins.

Have a great time!

Hi MezPerth,

As the others have pointed out the sky bus does not come directly to the hotel, but it will get you to southern cross station. from there you are probably better off getting a cab to the hotel, or catching the 72 tram from Flinders st station. A cab from the city will probably cost around $20-$25 but if you hit traffic this could be a little more.

The hotel can also arrange a driver to pick you up from the airport and drop you directly to the hotel for approximately $85, this price is fixed and the driver is guarenteed to meet you at the airport so you dont have to worry about misssing a bus or not having a cab at southern cross station.

Please feel free to contact any of my staff at the hotel or my self directly to help organise any of these transport options.

Kind Regards,

Ben Kershaw

Thanks for your input everyone. Just makes things that little bit clearer.

We have decided to get the Skybus to Southern Cross station, then taxi to our hotel.

Have a great Easter!
