First bit of news isn't good - you won't get a good hotel for $120 a night.

You'll need to up the budget considerable.

Have a look at www.woif.com for an idea.

Look in CBD, Southbank or, possibly a bit further out - Carlton, South Yara, St Kilda.

There is a free City Circle Tam

onlymelbourne.com.au/melbourne_details.php…

and a free tourist shuttle bus

thatsmelbourne.com.au/Gettingaroundthecity/V…

These will get you to most places visitors want to see within the city.

You might wish to reconsider the train idea - it's a long trip, not that comfortable, not much to see out of the window and more expensive than a flight which is only an hour and a half. If you have a day up your sleeve, perhaps take a trip to the Blue Mountains once you get to Sydney.

You may also want to start your own thread - Sydney locals aren't going to find your question here.

And the occasional 'please' and 'thank you' doesn't go astray either ;-)

The original post is 12 months old, so this thread will get confusing with some people replying to the OP, who has already been.

It's always best to start your own thread, with more info about your interests etc to help us advise you.

➜➜➜➜➜ Hi Gabriel K.

Did you ever look at your previous question? tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g255060-i122-k6339…

You will get lots of enthusiastic help here but you need to help us to help you. Do you realise that we are just travellers like yourselves who voluntarily take time to give advice and make suggestions on this forum? So *talking* to us works better than just firing off blunt questions, and us knowing that you have actually read our posts encourages us to continue to help with your planning, so we really appreciate answers to our questions and feedback on our suggestions. That way we can make progress with helping you plan your trip. Hope to hear from you again on your own thread.
