Booking thru Wotif |
|
Guys, Wondering what are the chances of getting budget accommodation thru Wotif.com(can only book 1 month in advance) if my traveling dates falls on 22th - 26th April 2009? Would it be better for me to book directly with the hotels? |
|
Victorian schools go back on the 20th, a Monday. While Easter is earlier in the month, Anzac Day on the Sat 25th should be too big a worry as I don't think they make a long weekend out of it in state of Victoria. So you might be OK to leave it till a month before. A lot depends what is happening in general in Melbourne at that time. As always if you have to be sure, then book early directly with the hotel concerned. Cheerz Wabster

Actually, Anzac Day is a public holiday in the state of Victoria. If it were only a night or 2 then you'd definitely be pretty safe with wotif but I'm not sure for 5 nights, particularly given the long weekend. If you don't mind running the risk of having to split up your stay (e.g. at 2 different hotels) then I'd go for wotif- generally it'll be cheaper!

As wabster has said, there are no school holidays then and no major events on, so accommodation SHOULD be ok. However, if you see accommodation at the right price now, then I would recommend you book it now.

ANZAC day (25 April) is on a Saturday next year and it is NOT a long weekend in Victoria.

Don't just look at Wotif.com.au. Although, that's the site that we normally use, we were heading to Melbourne during a particularly busy time and prices soared. So, we looked around, and found a much better deal on Needitnow.com.au. Others to look out for include lastminute.com.au (where you can book in advance, although, you may not necessarily get the best deal then, as many work on last minute deals), and not1night.com.au (where, you can also book in advance, and the longer you stay, the cheaper the price). We've used the sites above, except for not1night.com.au, but members here have had good experiences with it, so I'm sure it must be alright as well. Definitely check out individual hotel websites (or phone them) as well, as, when we arrived at our hotel, someone was complaining from their hotel room about the bedding arrangements. The hotel staff member said that, if the customer had rang, they could match the deal offered by a third party website (like Wotif). Of course, this might not be applicable with all hotels, but looking at individual hotel websites or phoning them is certainly another option, which may work out to be cheaper (although, this is not always the case either).

Confirming that school holidays are finished at that time and Saturday 25th April is Anzac day however we can still see the benefit of booking thru wotif or other web sites which are available . The question I would ask first is what part of Melbourne do you want to stay because there is accommodation in the near by suburbs

worth keeping in mind Anzac Day retail stores cant open till 1 pm. The public holiday is the Saturday so no holiday on the monday like if xmas or boxing day falls on a weekend.
