We are looking at taking a tour with a company called Brendan as part of our month long holiday to Australia in October. We would spend 4 nights in Sydney and then 1 night each Coffs Harbour, Surfer's Paradise and 2 nights each at Fraser Island, Hamilton Island, Dunk Island and Cairns. Sandwiched in is 1 night Port Douglas as well as 1 night in Rockhampton.
Need advice as to whether we will see much of the best of the Reef with this itinerary. We are active, early 60 age group and just want to snorkel -no scuba diving.
We have a choice of Quicksilver cruises on this tour on just 1 day:
cruise to Outer reef and snorkel at Agincourt or
Quicksmart for a day of snorkeling
or Wavedancer cruising the Coral sea and moor in the Low Isles for Reef activities.
as an alternative to itinerary above I am looking at some Reef Cruises called Coral Princess cruises that depart from Cairns and go to Ribbon Reefs #9,& #3 and Rachel Carson Reef. That is a 4 night/ 5 day cruise.
I just don't want to go all the way to Australia and miss the most important parts of the Great Barier Reef, but I am ignorant as to the areas of most fantastic sights.
We can miss seeing Coffs Harbour, Surfer's Paradise Rockhampton, Hamilton & Dunk if the cruise would be better.
Whew! My head is spinning and we must decide in a day or 2 as our flights to Australia are on hold.
Any advice would be deeply appreciated!
