Hi. I recently returned from staying at Port Douglas for 6 days and I thought i'd write a brief review to help anyone out that may be looking for advice. I used Travelports advice extensively prior to my trip and it was all extemely helpful.
I stayed at the Outrigger Heritage with my boyfriend (please see review). My got there late at night and went to see what Port has to offer. I am so glad we stayed here rather than Cairns. It is a lovely resort, not for parting but very good for couples, families and people just wanting a few pubs and restaurants. There is still plenty on offer.
The beach was lovely but I was very aware of stingers and someone even got stung in the enclosure so there was no way I was going in the water. We spent most of our relaxing time by the lovely pool in our hotel.
Trips are a must, particularly to the Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef. We went with Tony's Tropical Tours to the Rainforest. This was excellent. The tour guide was very knowledgable and there were only 6 of us which was brilliant, the food was great and we went everywhere you could want to go in the rainforest in 1 day.
We went with Wavelength out on the Great Barrier Reef (there are so many companies it is quite confusing). They specialise in Snorkelling and small groups. Some of the companies take huge numbers of people out. On our trip there were only 12 of us with 3 guides. It was the most amazing part of the trip. We saw dolphins, shark, turtles and hundreds of amazing fish. I'd have done it again had I had time. The guides were great and again the food and atomsphere being in a small group was brilliant.
We also went down to the Marina and spent some time shopping. There some great boutique style shops and you could spend a fortune on all the gorgeous shoes and bikinis!
At night times we spent all our time in Port Douglas. There are some great pubs, The Courthouse, Ironbar and Central. You have to go the Cane Toad Racing at the Ironbar pub. It was so funny and an experience i'll never forget, kissing a toad! Restuarant wise, we couldn't afford Nautilis, but we were very impressed with the food in Manjo Jam and Zeus was our favourite.
All in all a very good trip and we will definately be returning. The weather was great. My only regret was that we didn't do Breakfast with the Birds as we were relaxing too much. But thats what holidays are for!!
I hope this is helpful, let me know if anyone has any questions.
All my thanks to Travelport who has helped my have a great holiday.
