Trip Report - Trinity Beach

I'll post a proper review of the apartments I stayed at - Meridien At Trinity - but for now we'll just say that everything there was way, way, way above our expectations. Fantastic.

Trinity was a great place to stay. I don't think people need to worry about needing a car at Trinity. The little village has EVERYTHING you need. We were going to go to Palm Cove and Port Douglas on the bus for day trips, but didn't in the end as we were loving it at Trinity. The local [expensive] supermarket will drop you off at your accommodation which is fantastic. The beach was lovely, however we didn't swim as I worked my self into a paranoia about stingers... ;-)

Okay, restaurants, even for those Cairns residents, anyone travelling to Cairns and surrounds has to try out Atlantis Restaurant. The food was fantastic and the prices really reasonable. It is BYO only, they do not serve alcohol. The Macadamia Encrusted Tuna Steak was to die for, as was the Baramundi, the Kangaroo, the Tiger Prawns... etc. L'Ucinos unfortunately paled in comparison. Good food, but more expensive and no where near as tasty, however, L'Uncino is a nicer building in my opinion.

Tours

In the end we only did two tours - once to the rainforest and once to the reef. We were going to go with SilverSonic to the ribbon reefs, however at reef trip number one a certain person got really bad blisters from the fins and so we went to the crocodile farm instead which was surprisingly cool albeit I've never felt like such a tourist in my life...

RAINFOREST 4WD - WILDLIFE ECO SAFARI was brilliant. Our guide Steve was fantastic. Originally we wanted to go the Daintree and I was a bit dissappointed when I realised the hotel had booked me on this one. However, Steve pointed out the he was taking us to more beautiful rainforests and for longer times than what we'd be in the Daintree for. He also told us that the Daintree is overrated and overcomercialised. Steve was great. We were on the tour from 7:30am and didn't get back until after 6:00pm. Great day out and worth the money.

PASSIONS OF PARADISE was fine. Great staff - a cool, young and outgoing bunch. This trip was included in our accommodation and I could see why. It seems like a budget trip judging by the types of people on board. I'm not a snot or passing judgement, but it was just an observations. Snorkel sites I loved, but have nothing except Samoa to compare them to. I was swimming with cuttlefish, nemos, a few sharks, turtles and even those massive giant travellie things [or however they spell it]. Seeing the bird nesting at Michaelmans Cay was cool too. The day was good, lunch was fine, equiptment was fine. Wouldn't go on this one when I go back up north as I imagine the ribbon reef sites must be out of this world.

HARTLEY'S CROCODILE ADVENTURES was a really good 1/2 day out. Really touristy, but ohwell. We had fun. Really reccommend this actually as you won't see crocs like this many other places in Aussie and the lagoon they have set up which you cruise around and watch crocs jump out of the water is supposed to be way better than seeing one or two crocs on a Daintree cruise. Cheap too.

Do not use Sun-Palm Express [I think - will check] for transfers. Rude drivers who seem as though they didn't want to be doing there jobs. I was quite amused watching the guy who met us at Cairns Airport litterally throwing my luggage into the trailer which included a couple of fairly new and very expensive bags. Not impressed.

That's all for now, any questions just ask and I'll get back to you. FANTASTIC holiday though.

Hi AshRich - was good to read your trip report and to see what a good time you had. Trinity is a great little spot - my son lives there - we have stayed there many times. We now have an apartment at Yorkeys Knob as Trinity even became too "touristy" for us after a while, but we often visit Trinity for the restaurants. I'm taking some friends up in May and think I'll take them on the Rainforest trip you did - sounds good! If you read this - how many people were on the trip - there will be 4 of us.

Sorry if this is late, there were eight of us. I think the 4WD might be able to take 10 maybe. The guide was fantastic and I completely reccommed his tour.
