Hi, I'll be in Alice Springs in September and I want to visit Alice Springs Desert Park on the 28th. There is a transfer service which takes you there and back from your accommodation - costing $48 including entry to the Park, but as the concession entry to the Park is $17.50, it seems like a lot of money to pay just for a lift there and back.
However, without a car, there seems to be few other options. The cheapest option is to catch a public bus (No 400 I think) but this involves a 20-25 minute walk to and from the Park; another option is hiring a bike, costing $25 or $30 for the day, making the overall cost about the same. The thing about the bike is that I could use it to go to other places in Alice afterwards that are not within walking distance, but I'm not that fit and may be too tired.
What do you think would be the best option for a not-so-fit 40-something who's just done a three-day camping tour of Uluru/the Olgas/Kings Canyon?
Thanks for your help.
