The NYC forum constantly gets questions about holiday rental apartments and the one thing that the locals constantly keep saying is that staying under 30 days is illegal, except in certain instances where the owner also lives in the same building. And I believe it also depends on the type of building.

It is the law.

We have a thread here about someone from the US who didn't want to pay a parking fine and will break the law here, well anyone that goes to NYC has to be aware and abide by their laws too.

There have been posts on TA NYC where people swore their apartment rental seemed 'real' beforehand but were scammed, turned up to no apartment, or blatantly broke the law.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do as listen to the locals.

PS. The NYC forum has some cranky locals, the same as here. The majority are very nice. The people that you actually meet in NYC are also very friendly. I never had a bad experience over there and will be going back.

Please let us know how it all goes. And if it's a legal and real apartment rental please let us know.

Maybe the NYC forum could do with some info that they can use to help out people with legal and proper apartment rentals.
