Due to our son springing a complete surprise on us earlier this year and declaring he was off round the world, we'll be heading out to Sydney at the tail end of 2013 to spend Christmas with him.
Now usually I would reasonably relaxed about the where to stay and what to do, spending a month or two badgering friends and poring over TripAdvisor. However, what little research I have done suggests that unless I want to spend my time living under a cardboard box I need to get my skates on and get booking accommodation.
The problem is I have no idea where to start! So, what I am hoping is that someone will be able to help me with a starter for ten as to how I should be looking to structure our trip.
We arrive in Sydney on the 23rd December and leave on the 10th of January. Budget is not unlimited, but given the time of year and the fact it's also for our 30th wedding anniversary I am expecting that the credit card will be taking a battering.
We're more city types than rugged adventurers, but appreciate a good view, some history and a decent glass of wine. Happy to hit the road for a few days, or hop on a short plane ride.
So, for a starting point, what would be the advice of those in the know on how to structure our 18 day stay? Also, given that there will be three of us (our adult daughter is also coming out for a while) should we be looking at apartment rental rather than hotel?
I appreciate that there's a small party that takes place on the 31st. We'd quite like to pop along to that but if it's a no-no due to late booking etc we're happy to escape the city early.
Any and all advice gratefully received.
Thanks in advance
