Mayreville france....good stopover point from Calais?

We are planning to stay in a Beautiful house in Mayreville for 2 weeks in August. We are driving from Calais and would like some suggestions for a good mid way stopping point...including some easy and reasonable priced hotels. Cheap and clean for a stop over if anyone knows any? Also has anyone been to this area before? We are looking for peace and quiet and some walking and hopefully there are some of those brilliant french supermarkets near ish to buy some delicious food to cook ! Any information or tips would be so appreciated.

As far as I can find out Mayreville is a very small village with only 69 inhabitants. For a good, large supermarket I fear you will have to go to Carcassonne. Castelnaudary and Mirepoix will have decent supermarkets and markets. In addition, they are nice towns. Do not expect to find any services in such a small village - not even a bakery. There may be a bakery van on certain days - perhaps ask your hosts.

Chain hotels like Ibis are cheap and clean and convenient for a stopover on a transport leg.

Thank you for your help!

There are only two of us ... I am 30 and my husband 35, so very much looking for peace and quiet. It sounds like it will be quiet which is great!

We are not going until July so have a bit of time to book ferries etc.

it's a shame about the shops but we don't mind driving to do a weekly food shop.

Will look for an Ibis on the way down.

How long is the drive to carcassonne would you say?

It is a little short of an hour to travel to Carcassonne. Castelnaudary will be half the distance and can offer good supermarket shopping as well. To calculate distances try google maps or viamichelin. Major supermarkets/hypermarkets would be Carrefour and Casino Géant. Google maps will be helpful finding supermarkets as well.

In your location, peace and quiet guaranteed I think :)

Suggest Troyes for a possible stopover, but really, it depends wha time you "land" in France, as to where it would be best for you to stay. As you don't even know that yet, it really is VERy difficult to make sensible suggestions...

Right ferry is booked, Dover to Calais at 6.40am. Looking at route planning we want to get most of the driving done on the first day so were thinking of stopping off at either chateauroux or Limoges area? Does anyone have any suggestions for clean nice ish hotels not far from the motorway that have a good evening meal?

Thanks
