Eastern Sicily

We are going to be traveling to Sicily in a couple of weeks.

We will arrive in Palermo on Friday, November 15 and will be going to Hotel Plaza Opera for three nights.

On Monday morning we will pickup a car at PMO Palermo Airport, visit Segesta and Selinunte arriving late in the afternoon in Agrigento where we will spend the night at the Villa Athena Hotel near the Valley of the Temples which we will visit the following morning before departing for PVilla Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina.

So after Piazza Armerina (Tuesday, November 19 in the afternoon) everything else is up in the air except that we have a flight fron Catania Airport to Rome at 11 am on Saturday November 23 and would like to stay close enough to the airport in order to avoid any morning traffic problems.

Tentatively we could overnight in Piazza Armerina, see Ragusa and Noto on our way to Syracuse the following day (Wednesday 20).

Stay in Syracuse for a couple of nights (with the car) and get to Catania on Friday November 22.

Another option would be to go from Piazza Armerina to Catania, drop the car at the airport and stay in Catania from Tuesday until Saturday and use public transportation to visit the other cities.

At this moment the plan is to play it by ear and to see how much can we cover between Piazza Armerina and Catania before dropping the car at the airport.

We will appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Sicily Tonybola!

If you already plan to stay in Palermo for three nights, then Tuesday until Saturday in Catania would be a very large-city-heavy itinerary.

Note that there is no left luggage storage at Segesta or at Selinunte, and it's always a risk to leave luggage unattended in the car. Refrain from opening the boot and exposing your luggage at either site.

There's also no left luggage anywhere around Piazza Armerina, including the Villa Romana del Casale.

If you plan to visit the Valley of the Temples in the morning, and then the Villa Romana del Casale in the afternoon, spend the night in Piazza Armerina.

Then drive the autostrada via Catania to Siracusa, and spend all of the remaining nights in Siracusa. Time is lost packing and unpacking, changing hotels frequently, and with afternoon check-ins.

Take a day trip to the Val di Noto towns from your base in Siracusa.

Return the car at Catania's airport prior to your departing flight. Siracusa is less than an hour's drive to the airport.
