My Travel Puzzle

Ok, got to get time off the books. . .My husband and I will be leaving the east coast of Florida to tour the west coast of California. . . WEEK TWO of our trip will be spent traveling the coast south by car. . . Hotels stays have been confirmed for several months. . . I’ve been monitoring TA putting the road trip together trying to balance our interest (I can do the outdoor things since I work on environmental restoration projects in S. FL). . . But need to strike a balance for Hubby (I don’t think the trails will be a challenge, kayaking is out <LOL>). . . So we love touring cathedrals, castles, and botanical gardens when traveling. . .I think that translates to history path tours, missions, and gardens on the west coast. . . So have I but the puzzle pieces of our road trip together properly? I think we’ll make travel through Big Sur before road closures/night fall? Not sure the mix on Day 3 and Day 4 is right? Hours of operation at land marks/ natural lands/tours/museums seem to dictate what/when we can see things. . . I’m really bummed that we’ll miss out on the Coastal Discovery Center. . .

1. Re: My Travel Puzzle

May 6: SF to Monterey looks fine

May 7: Leave Monterey 7:30 am. Point Lobos opens at 8:00 am, but it won't take an hour to get there from Monterey.

Bixby Bridge doesn't need an hour. 15-30 minutes tops is all you'll need.

If you want to do a bit of hiking in Big Sur, park along Highway 1 outside of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and take the Pfeiffer Falls trail. No need to stop at the Big Sur Station.

Do you have lunch planned somewhere or will you be packing food with you? Nepenthe is a great lunch spot with an awesome view.

McWay Falls is approx. 8 miles south of Nepenthe. An hour might be overkill. Might be perfect. Just depends on how much time you want to linger with that beautiful view.

May 8: Looks okay. Might want to check on tours at the Jack House on March Street in SLO for another historical property tour or Nit Wit Ridge in Cambria. The Santa Rosa Chapel in Cambria is quite lovely, as well.

Looks like an interesting visit.

Thanks for your helpful response, Kibblesmom. Your posting on the Travel Forum have been very helpful in planning our trip. We'll be sure to add Nepenthe as a lunch stop on our route, it will certainly top a box lunch!
