Saturday, October 27
On Saturday morning, we drove back down Highway 1 towards Big Sur to do another tour of a light station. This time it was Point Sur:
Another excellent tour. Each one of these have been quite different. This is a three hour tour and you have to walk up the steep driveway to the top of the rock. Our guides took it easy and stopped every few minutes to explain a part of the history of the historic light station.
From the top the views are tremendous. They are still restoring some of the buildings but the lighthouse itself is in fine condition and there's a little museum next to it.
After our tour, we headed up to Garrapata Beach for a picnic. While the weather had been perfectly still (and warm) up on Pt. Sur, it had become quite windy by the time we reached Garrapata and we had to find a cliff to hide behind in order to enjoy our sandwiches.
When we finished lunch, we didn't linger on the windswept beach but headed north to Pacific Grove. There was another lighthouse that was beckoning us.
I'll continue this day on the Pacific Grove forum.
I've posted a blog about this day's travels with some more details and a few pictures here:
