Friday, October 26th
Today, we drove up Highway 1 along the Big Sur Coast to Monterey. It was another perfectly beautiful day on the Central Coast. No clouds, no wind (not yet), and very warm temperatures.
First we stopped at Hearst Castle to see the movie "Building the Dream" in the Imax theater since we had missed it on Thursday.
We then drove up to Piedras Blancas to spend some time at the elephant seal viewing area. http://www.elephantseal.org/
Our next stop was Limekiln State Park for a two mile hike up to the kilns and the waterfall and back. It's a beautiful hike through the redwoods:
Next was Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park:
and the short walk out to the viewpoint for McWay Falls.
In Big Sur, we stopped for sandwiches and then drove down to Pfeiffer Beach for a picnic:
Finally, it was back on Highway 1 and the spectacular drive to Carmel. We stopped at Point Lobos for the sunset and then found our motel in Monterey. We did the touristy thing and had dinner on Fisherman's Wharf.
I've described the day in more detail with a few pictures on this blog page:
