What to wear?

I am planning a day trip to Big Sur/Monterey on November 27th from SanFrancisco and was wondering what the weather would be like. I think SanFrancisco wil be in the 50's to 60's so can I expect it to be warmer?

The Coastal parts of Northern CA are not warmer than SF most times of the year. Perhaps checking out www.weatherundergound.com for Monterey a week before your visit may help. We are getting rain a few days a week now so it may or may not rain -- hard to say now. It should be about the same weather as in SF.. We always suggest dressing in layers. It could get windy as well so plan accordingly.

For us 50s is cold and chilly especially if windy. Perhaps for Philly folks, that is balmy :-)

In the winter time, temperatures are pretty similar up and down the northern CA coast. The biggest differences will be with regard to rain - where a storm hits the coast can make a big difference. It can rain in SF and the north bay while Monterey and Big Sur don't get anything - or visa versa.

Definitely wear layers. There generally isn't much if any coastal fog in the winter time, so if it is a sunny day without much wind, you may see some pretty warm temperatures - into the 70s. OTOH, if there is wind and/or cloud cover, or just weak sun, temps will be 10-20°F cooler. And if we get a front from Alaska, you may see daytime temps in the 40s.

It's too far out to know what the weather will be like that day. The California coast tends to have moderate temps year round, but, as mentioned above, a cold front or storm passing through can change all that. Check your favorite on line weather site to see what conditions look like a week out.

Like others have said, come prepared for blustery, potentially showery weather - but it will still be MUCH warmer than Philadelphia. The trick is to wear layers: bring a sweater and a light jacket, which you can take off if you luck out and the temperatures shoot above 70, which is not uncommon.

And even if we do have rain, it tends to come in short bursts with patches of sunshine. Rain here isn't usually like the East Coast where it's continually gray for days on end.
