Hi all, wondering for those who know Big Sur what you think of my itinerary. Basically wondering if we can do a half-day from Monterey down to Julia Pfieffer Burns SP without feeling too rushed. It will be myself and 11 year old daughter. Here is what we would like to do:
Point Lobos Nature Reserve - planning an hour here to hike around, is that enough time?
Garrapata State Park - planning 30 minutes here to hike around, is that enough time?
Notleys Landing - 5 min photo opp.
Bixby Bridge - 5 min photo opp.
Hurricane Point - 5-10 min photo opp.
Point Sur - planning 20 minutes, is that enough time to hike to the lighthouse and back to the car?
Pfeiffer Big Sur SP - planning 30 minutes here, I know there is a ton to see, we would be interested in scenic overviews and, if close enough, a quick hike to see coastal redwoods.
Pfeiffer Beach - planning 45 minutes here to hike to the beach for a brief visit, is that enough time?
Partington Cove - planning 30 minutes here to hike to the cove (through the tunnel), is that enough time?
Julia Pfeiffer Burns SP - planning 45 minutes here to hike to see McWay Falls.
Ultimately we have one day, and I am thinking of the Monterey Aquarium in the morning then lunch then heading out of Monterey around 1pm for the above itinerary, want to finish at JPBSP around 6pm.
And sure, I know it can be done, the real question is if we are rushing something too much and will miss something we will regret later, not spending enough time in certain places. And of course, these are subjective judgments -- I know some will feel that Point Lobos deserves a full day by itself. Maybe advise what we would be missing with the above itinerary, or if at a certain spot we spent just a little more time here is how we would be rewarded.
The alternative for us is to skip the aquarium and devote a full day to the Big Sur drive. I am asking about the aquarium itself on a separate TripAdvisor forum.
Thanks in advance!
