Thanks, everybody. Looking forward to it. I've never been to Palm Springs before, so I hope to be able to post some new reviews of places. The town is having an annual walking tour of the various vintage hotels there called the Walk of the Inns; it's so nice of the place to throw a party just for us. We'll also be checking out the mid-century modern architecture and furniture shopping scene.
Will also be trying out a new place in Pismo Beach, the Ventana Grill (Kibblesmom, I think you said you liked it), and will enjoy returning to our favorite SLO-area haunts: Avila Beach, the Big Sky Cafe and Galley Seafood in Morro Bay. After 2 days and a drive through Cambria (with the obligatory stop at Robin's for the fish tacos) we'll head up to Big Sur.
During last year's central coast trip, for the first time ever we drove south along Highway 1, and caught an interesting glimpse of the Salmon Creek waterfall. I think it's harder to see if you're headed north. We were rushing to a business meeting in SLO and couldn't stop. Everything I've read indicates it's a very easy walk from the road, so we plan to stop for a few minutes this time and look around.
Once we reach the Post Ranch we'll probably hardly leave for 3 days, except for the obligatory visit to Nepenthe for ambrosia burgers and Deetjens for a fireside evening dinner.
