 Not quite a pensioner

We are 2 very young at heart 50 year olds who have booked a week at the Vasco Da Gama hotel in June, after reading some of the reviews I'm becoming a little concerned about it being a pensioners paradise. Are there some decent bars in Monte Gordo? were not looking for Discos!!

1. Re: Not quite a pensioner

we have just returned from monte gordo-17th.march.

we are 60s and don't like discos either. we went to the bar 42, which is on the main prom. try the cappuchino and brandy....2.80 euros- approx. £1.50.

you can get a good english breakfast at MOBYS BAR-or ED AND WILLEMS. through the day we used to go to the GARDENS near the CASINO....very cheap and very nice.

if you like chinese-go to the one on the main street, not the prom. indian-the best is opposite the chinese.....very friendly... if you want to know anything else give me a shout......the hotel you are going to is very nice, but lots of older long-termers, we stayed at the ALCAZAR, but not recommend. hope you enjoy your holiday... sandra and gordon.

Hi

Thank you for the E-Mail and the information, I'm sure we will find it helpful. After booking the holiday and then looking at some of the reviews on Trip Advisor I was becoming a little concerned that we had chose the wrong place. we have been to Portugal before, we stayed at Praia da Rocha which has a very nice beach and not too hilly and this was why we chose Monte Gordo.

My friend smokes, could you buy cigarettes in supermarkets, or do you have to go to a Tobacconists? When we went to Menorca she could only get ciggies from a tobacconist and the resort we stayed at didn't have one!!

3. Re: Not quite a pensioner

Hi - we too are going to the Vasco da Gama in June! It will be our third visit. There are pensioners there, but not decrepid (?sp?) ones, and mainly Dutch at this hotel. There are bars and restaurants in Monte Gordo, I don't think you will find it too bland. Vila Real (5 Euros in a taxi) has lovely restaurants and is much prettier than Monte Gordo. The hotel restaurant on the beach is good; very cean, shadey, relaxed....but expensive, so watch out. The entertainment in the hotel is very Val Doonican, but make sure you watch the magician - he is a scream, but not intentionally.

The hotel is not plush, but well tended and spacious. Let me know if I can help anymore.
