Well just got back from my trip to Lindos and I enjoyed the place so very much. I met some lovely people and was very rarely on my own!
Rhodes old town is just beautiful and I took many photos of the buildings (shame about the graffiti on some of it) and enjoyed walking round the harbour, although at 28c it was a bit warm.
I went scuba diving in St Paul's bay and at only 35 euros it was well worth it. Book through Sun tours (I think) in the town as it's 50 euros if you book direct with Lepia diving. The guys were great and took your safety seriously. They also pick you up and drop you off. They take photos of you diving too.
Both beaches are lovely but the main beach is sandier and more gently shelving. Water temps are lovely and it was warmer than the appartment's pool.
Food wise Odyssia has to be my favourite. I ate there twice and the food was perfect both times. The waiters are lovely and attentive without being intrusive and they looked after me well. I got a free pud both times and had to force it down as I was already very full! Paid around 23 euros for a two course meal with two glasses of wine (excl the free pud!). I drank in the Captain's bar (beautiful!) and the Museum bar (very good daquiris).
I was lucky and got into the acropolis for free on Saturday as it was Culture weekend. Thursday was National Tourism day and the villagers handed out free cake, wine and flowers and treated us to a night of Greek dancing and singing in the square with the big tree. I even took part in a Greek dancing conga line! A perfect evening.
The weather was great, really hot at the beginning of the week but cooling slightly at the end with some wispy clouds. There were sea mists at the end of the week that drove the humidity up in the evenings and it was usually around 26c - very warm overnight too. On my last day the temp went back up again, hot, hot, hot!
Funniest moment? Two donkeys making a break for it on the way home up the hill. Unbelievably the owner caught up with them near the top - impressive sprinting there.
On to the Athena. Nothing wrong with the appartment, typical 2 star
with basic equipment. The shower was very good and the beds nice and firm. The cleaners came in regularly and nobody complained about me using the towels outside the room. However there is scant regard for guests not wanting to stay up til 3, 4 and 5am EVERY single night\morning. I had the misfortune to be opposite the pool bar where a particular group of people spent every night getting plastered. They then proceeded to shriek, sing and shout the drunker they got. I politely mentioned it to Theo after two nights of little sleep but kind of got a 'oh well never mind' answer from him. I had earplugs in and a pillow over my head but they could still be heard. I had to waste one or two afternoons catching up with sleep as I started to feel really rough from the lack of it. It was a real shame as most of the people staying there were lovely and I made some great friends who I will keep in touch with.
All in all I love Lindos and will return again but I will pay a bit more and be far more selective about where I stay!!
Thanks for all the help on here - it made my eating and drinking choices very easy and getting around was fine.
