official homepage (in German)

http://www.oldtimer-hahnweide.de/

http://www.kirchheim-teck.de/

you could ask their tourist office about accommodation

tourist@kirchheim-teck.de

Other towns to stay:

Wendlingen, Nürtinge, Esslingen

…esslingen.de/servlet/…index.html

From Stuttgart main train staiton itself it's already 40-50 minutes by train to Kirchheim.

In case you go by public transport:

Kirchheim(Teck) is inside the VVS, the local public transport network of the Stuttgart region.

http://www.vvs.de

rail map

http://www.vvs.de/download/71.pdf

Kircheim(T) is on the grey (regional trains) line in 5 o'clock direction.

map with more local public transport around Kircheim

vvs.de/download/VLP04_Kirchheim_Nuertingen.p…

There will be shuttle buses from Kirchheim station to Hahnweide airfield during this event.

Some things to do:

Albatross Flight Museum at the Stuttgart Airport (up above in the terminals)

Stuttgart ( www.stuttgart-tourist.de )- Mercedes Benz, Porsche Museums, other museums, mineral baths, zoo-botanical garden, world reknown ballet, excellent opera, etc.

closer to the airfield at Dettingen:

the largest castle (fortress) ruin of the Swabian Alb ( www.schweaebischealb.de ), Hohenneuffen (in www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de )

the open air museum at Beuren www.freilichtmuseum-beuren.de

Teck castle (Burg Teck)

Randecker Moor (Randecker Maar)

Fossil Museum Hauff (Holzmaden) with the excellent magnificent fossils collected from the fossil quarries there (you can also pay to enter and look and collect yourself)

palace, Rathaus and church in Kirchheim ubnter Teck ( www.kirchheim-teck.de )

The large Stuttgart Wine Village will be occuring at this time (26Aug-6Sept) and might interest you ( www.stuttgarter-weindorf.de only in German).

As to accommodations, personally I would stay in Stuttgart if you have a car. City Hotel in central Stuttgart is close to the city center and has free parking. I believe besides representing hotels in Stuttgart, the Stuttgart Tourist Information office ( www.stuttgart-tourist.de ) also represents them around Stuttgart such as hotels in Kirchheim unter Teck.

A typo on the Swabian Alb (my favorite area of Germany) website, it should be www.schwaebischealb.de . There are lots of castles and caves, as well as excellent cliffside scenery. The Hahnweide airport is used by glider pilots as there is good gliding on the Alb. There should be about 200 airplanes and gliders for the show.
