First Time in Ireland

We are trying to plan our first trip to Ireland and are thinking of staying in a vacation cottage. Should we stay in one place in Galway area and make day trips or break it up between Galway and Killarney. We plan on renting a car and driving from one area and making day trips. We are all about scenary.

If you are "all about scenery", then you won't want to confine yourself to just one part of Ireland, e.g. Galway. It would make much more sense to base yourself around Killarney to see the sights southwest of Limerick and then in Galway to see the country north and northwest of Limerick.

Galway bordering Mayo and Clare has lots of Scenic options on the doorstep. Killarney though would be a 2 day trip spending the night in town, in fact 3 days if you want to explore Kerry from there.

On our trip last year we found this incredible rental: www.irishdreamcottage.com . This home is on Ring of Kerry, about 20 minutes east of Sneem, and 45 minutes from Killarney. The price was very reasonable. It is usually for rent by the week but we got it for three nights. A perfect amount of time for exploring ROK... but we would have stayed longer if possible. If you head to ROK, don't miss Skellig Michael, our favorite place so far in Ireland. Good luck and have a great trip!!
