killarney to cashel

Does anyone have any suggestions for attractions along the way between Killarney and the Rock of Cashel. We are two Americans - mid' 60s doing a self-drive through Ireland.

I would suggest a visit to Cahir Castle - heritageireland.ie/en/South-East/CahirCastle, and also the Swiss Cottage in Cahir - heritageireland.ie/en/…SwissCottage. Cahir is on the Killarney - Cashel route, about 10 miles from Cahir.

There's also Mitchelstown caves, Doneraile forest park-sadi to be haunted by a Lord smothered to save the family honour, when he went mad after being bitten by a rabid fox.

It depends if you go via Mallow or Cork. Tge Mallow route is shorter, but is a worse road leading to better journey times via Cork.

All the attractions listed above are on both routes, except Doneraile.

On the Mallow route, you might add in Kanturk Castle, which has a fascinating history, although what remains of it isn't so fascinating.

Via Cork, there is Cork City itself, while Blarney Castle isn't far off route. Also Kilcrea Priory is just off the main road and could be a place to kill half an hour. None of Kinsale , Cobh and Midleton Distillery are excessive detours off this route.
