Romantic Break in Ireland...cant make my mind up where to...

My good lady is in need of a break!! Being the gent I am I've decided to whisk her away to Ireland for a few days in late July for a romantic getaway!

Can anyone suggest a good cosy b&b or hotel thats in the cork or shannon regions (as we'll be flying into one of the airports from gatwick, good old ryanair!), where we can get a good bite to eat, have a nice walk and take in some scenery???

I've seen a number of places from browsing the net but cant make my mind up so could do with a second opinion.

Flying into either Shannon or Cork I would still argue that Kerry is your best bet.

It really depends on things to see and do whether or not you are taking a rental car or public transport.

You can still have a romantic getaway in both Cork and Limerick City,Limerick being the main city outside of Shannon. Both with numerous restaurants catering for the exotic and modest taste, exotic and modest budgets also. Im not an expert on Cork but considering I live most of the week and work in Co Cork I have never even felt drawn to socialise in Cork.

I still would recommend Kerry as a good bet. You can easily get public transport to either Killarney or Tralee. I recommened Killarney.

Even from Shannon you could also visit West Clare which is the Shannon Airport region. Searches on the Shannon region will bring up areas around the "Shannon" river.

I you do not with to venture too far from the Airports I would suggest West Clare, if you can go to Kerry, definately go.

Jack - I have got to say Killarney.

You should be able to get a bus from Shannon to Killarney fairly easily (www.buseireann.ie) which will take about 3 hours or so but there is some nice scenery on the way.

The Lake Hotel in Killarney is on the Lake, very romantic

www.lakehotel.com/

On a practical note - there are some very nice ladies clothing shops in Killarney: McBees, Quills AND of course there is a designer outlet mall in the Fair Hill part of town. (Also some nice jewellery shops!!)

I am married 19 years but still find Killarney romantic :o)

BTW - End of July will be busy - book NOW!!

Jack, what a lovely idea! I'd say every woman on this forum is full of envy and wondering when she is going to be whisked away for a romantic getaway...

While I agree with the suggestion of KIllarney I am just wondering whether the journey might be too far on public transport for just a few days.

Have you considered Kinsale? It isn't too far from Cork and full of really good restaurants (and, yes, some nice shops...). There are nice walks around, too, and some lovely pubs.

Have a look at www.actonshotelkinsale.com, www.bluehavenkinsale.com or www.thetridenthotel.com. If you'd prefer a B&B have a look at www.kinsale.ie.

Will you let us know where you're going once you have decided?

Based on your airport restrictions, another vote for Kinsale.

Without restrictions -- Dingle.

based on your travel restrictions, I would also recommend Kinsale (normally I would recommend Kerry, and on this occasion Kenmare) or alternatively Clonakilty if you are flying into Cork. I have to say that Actons Hotel in Kinsale would not necessarily be luxurious but certainly serves it purpose as staying there you are located in the 'gourmet capital of Ireland' and there are really some lovely scenic walks. An alternative for accommodation is Ballincurra House http://www.ballinacurra.com/. Neither Actons or Ballincurra have real spa facilities but the town has much more to offer and loads to do. Alternatively head to Clonakilty to the Inchyodoney Spa and Hotel http://www.inchydoneyisland.com/. It is located on a fabulous beach where you can also take in some surfing if your needs desire or simply take on Clonaklity town which is lovely in itself and has some good trad bars and restaurants. You are also in driving distance of Glandore, Skibereen, Baltimore....all of which have some fantastic scenery.
