Florence museums: Special holiday hours!

Visitors to Florence over the New Year holiday will be happy to know about the special openings announced by the Polo Museale Fiorentino! Most of its museums (Uffizi, Accademia, Palazzo Pitti, etc) are normally closed on Mondays. Because this year New Years Eve is on Monday, the museums will be open from 8:15 until 6:00. Others who will also be open on Monday: Bargello, San Marco Museum, the Cenacolo of Sant'Apollonia and the Medici Villas of Petraia, Poggio a Caiano, Castllo and Cerreto Guidi. The Orsanmichele Museum will be open and free.

On January 1, these museums will be closed but the Villas at Petraia, Poggio a Caiano and Cerreto Guidi will open, as will the rarely visited yet absolutely wonderful Opificio delle Pietre Dure and Archeological Museum in Piazza Santissima Annunziata.

For a truly unique and special experience, the Laboratories of the Fortezza da Basso will open on on Jan. 1 from 2-6:00. This is the world's foremost center for art restoration, so take advantage of this really rare chance to see from the inside how the great masterpieces get some TLC! Admission is free but reservations are required (055/2651347-339).
