Bamberg to Vienna, another question

I m now looking to purchase train tickets. For several of the trains there will be two transfers. The detail for the first transfer says "transfer 11 minutes" and the next change it says "walk 10 minutes" What is the difference between transfer and walk?

Transfer is of course what it says, you are going to switch trains. But sometimes this only means to get off, walk 15 feet and board the next leg. BUT when it says “10 minutes walk”, this usually means that it is quite a distance to the next platform that you need. Sometimes hauling your luggage up and down stairs to get across the street to the next plat form. Sometimes going in tunnels or over constructed walk ways to clear construction and things. So really they mean the same thing, just one is warning you it’s not 15 feet of level concrete away.

Transfere 11 mins means you change trains in the same train station, maybe even just to the next track, walk 10 mins means that you have to walk a short distance to catch a bus or something, you have to leave the train station itself.

Did you put in the actual adress you want to go to in Vienna? If yes, that means you have to leave the train station in Vienna and catch a bus, tram, if not I couldn't find any connections with a 10 min walk?

Travel date?

Normally there are 2 hourly connections to Vienna with 1 change of trains in Nuremberg.

For this the DB timetable may show "transfer time 11 min." This is the time you have between both trains.

"walk 10 minutes" means that you will have to walk 10 minutes between the arrival and departure platform. This is normally only shown if the arrival and departure point are not in the same train station or not in the same part of the train station.

Guess you have queried for a connection to Wien Hbf. The trains coming from Germany do however still call or end at Wien Westbahnhof. Wien Hbf, the new main train station, is not yet full in use. Than the timetable will show that you can travel by U-Bahn or tram to Wien Hbf. These are not covered by your train ticket. And if your final destination is not Wien Hbf you can query anyway to the U-Bahn or tram station closest to your hotel.
