I can't reccomend eateries in Calais but I could recommend visiting Boulogne for a few hours as I quite like it there, not far from Calais either. Recommend walking around the old town and the harbour. :)

The coast route is said to be beautiful :)

I like the small town of Desvres just a few miles east of Boulogne. There is a factory and a shop where you can watch plates and other items of pottery being hand painted.

For places to eat:

Brasserie De L'agriculture 22, place Léon Blum

La Ferme Du Moulin Aux Draps Route de Crémarest : http://www.hotel-moulinauxdraps.com

Le Chalet 5, rue des Potiers

Le Jean Bart 45, rue de l'Eglise

Restaurant Café Jules 11 Place Leon Blum

Have you gone yet?

I often catch the train from Calais Ville to Boulogne or St.Omer, gives you a couple of hours in each place, each with a 25-35 minute journey, £5 each way.

And it's quite scenic too the train journey from Calais to Boulogne :) The Boulogne to Calais train seemed very modern, quite unlike the train from Calais to St Omer ;)

Tarry, went to St.Omer about 3 weeks ago. The train out was a double of what they use to Boulogne, and the one back was a fairly recent double decker :)

When I did it, it was like a train back it time, they must have been using old rail stock or something ;)

It was just something that makes me remember it anyway.

Ah yeah, I see those in the sidings sometimes, I always think myself lucky I'm not on one of those!
