Travel from Venice by train

We are thinking of travelling from Venice to Desenzano by train but since we are in our 60s and 70s we are concerned about the idea of lugging heavy suitcases up or down flights of stairs in the stations. Are there lifts and are there porters to help with the luggage? I think it might be more of a problem at Desenzano as it is a smaller station.

For train travel, it is essential that you do not have more luggage than you can *comfortably* handle by yourselves. There is nobody to help you at the stations, there may be stairs to the platforms, and there are always a few steep steps up into the train.

I don't know about Desenzano specifically, but it is not a major station and is unlikely to have lifts.
