Travelling by train from Italy (probably Florence) to London

Can anyone help? We are thnking of travelling by train from Florence to London via Switzerland. The attraction is to go over the Alps in the daytime and to see as much of the countryside as possible. Can anyone give us advice re prices, how to book, how to organise this. We have been bogged down by information overload on the internet! Thanks!

I think your first stop would be to this website...

seat61.com/Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express.htm

Note that the complete journey from Venice to London takes 2 days and costs 1600 GBP per person.

Personally, I'd fly.
