So Many Questions

We are planning on taking a honeymoon trip for five days to Positano and the surrounding area then fly to Croatia for 5-6 days. The plan right now is to fly into Rome stay for a night then head down on the train to Sorrento and then finding our way from there-taking the bus or is there a ferry? Do you think there is a better/easier option? Does it makes sense to train down to Salerno instead?

We are also thinking about staying in Praiano if that makes it easier. How about day trip to Pompeii? Is that doable from Positano or Praiano? We are planning to go in October, early part of the month--will things still be open, the ferry, restaurants, etc? We will be training back to Rome to catch a flight to Croatia so I assume we would follow the same path. Thanks for your help!

We took the train from Rome to Naples and the ferry from Naples to Positano. Not sure about October though.

Positano is stunningly beautiful you will love it.

When did you do that Doby? There is no ferry from Naples to Positano.

The ferries can be running in early and even mid to late October. I have been in Positano at both those times and the ferry was running; if there are high seas or stormy weather, the ferry cannot make it to the dock in Positano as there is no harbor, just a dock. And, often times the companies don't decide until late as to when they will stop running the ferry service for the season.

If Pompei is on your itinerary, I would suggest taking the train to Naples, then going to Pompei before going onto your final destination on the Amalfi Coast. Or, going to Pompei as you leave the Amalfi Coast - it is not an easy commute getting to Pompei once you are there.

There is the option of a private car service - you could take the train to Naples then a car service to Positano or Praiano - cost is obviously higher - about 110 plus euros but it is is the easiest way to get there.

If ferries are still running, I would take the train to Salerno, ferry to Amalfi (the village) and then a taxi to Praiano (which is between Amalfi and Positano) or if you stay in Positano, just take the Salerno ferry to Positano.

The buses, even in early in October, will still be a misery. High season ends the end of October.

Both those sites should be looked at close to your travel dates for current ferry information.

We took the ferry from Naples to Capri and then to Positano. (Are u saying there is no direct one to positano? ). We then took the ferry from Positano to Naples direct.

It was late August/early September a couple of (2-3?) years ago. Sorry if my info is outdated!

But the geography hasn't changed - still a beautiful town:)

No, there is no direct ferry between Positano and Naples - but it doesn't mean it may not pop up at some point; what happens in one year is not guarantee or indication that the same routes will be covered.
