Ponza in October

Hello!

I am thinking about travelling to Ponza in the first few weeks of October.

First off I would like to ask what the weather will be like in Ponza during the first weeks of October and secondly if the return ferry/hydrofoil service is running as it will be off peak season?

In addition I would like to fly to Rome and get the train to Anzio. Are they any time tables available? Is this the best way to get to Ponza from Anzio?

I know too many questions more to come :)

Thanks!

Hi,

This should help re: weather:

Check out this site. In the middle of the page (History & Almanac) you can put in any date from 1996 and it will give you the weather on that given day/week/month

http://www.wunderground.com.

Weather2Travel.com is also good & can tell you humidity, hrs of sunshine etc.

Ferries to Ponza operate all year round, the ferries reduce in low season October to April and types of ferries also reduce. The weather in general is still very nice early October that you can enjoy sunny warm days (not hot).

This website will help you with ferry info etc

general info

http://www.ponza.net/

The train from Rome Fiumicino airport goes to Roma Termini called Leonardo Express, 30 minutes non stop and 11 euro per person one way, validate ticket before boarding in yellow machine on platform easy to buy ticket at station before boarding.

Here is the website (ignore old price displayed)

trenitalia.it/en/…leonardo_express02.html

This arrives to platform 24.

Trains to Anzio are to destination Nettuno FM7 trains approximately 1 evey hour takes 55 minutes and cosst 3,20 euro. Ask for 60km ticket at ticket sellor or newsagent at station. Trains normally leave platform 12,13,14 at Termini. Train can take a stop of five to ten minutes on the way and way back as two tracks become one so don't panic it is normal. Times can be check on www.trenitalia.it (click English top right) enter from Roma Termini to Anzio. When take the train do not get off at Anzio Colonia but Anzio the 2nd last stop. Walk to port is a good 15-20 minutes very few taxis in area.

hope this helps let me know if you have more questions.

A BIG thanks for all the information you have posted it will be a big help.

I've got a slight problem I emailed www.vector.it asking for a timetable of the services in October but have not got anything back.

I also just checked on http://www.alilauro.it/ for Anzio to Ponza return for Octover 2nd - October 5th and there looks like there is no service, the page was in Italian, sorry my italian is no good and I think that is what the page said.

The rest of the ferry pages are in Italian and I dont understand ;(

SG1972 - hello !

I went to the Caremar site for you - it seems the ferries run to Ponza and back from Formia all year.

The Caremar ferries from Anzio to Ponza only run in the summer between the end of June and the end of September.

If you go to the website for the times, click on the little sketch map on the left hand side that is marked 'orari e tariffe' (times and fares). Then position the arrow on the port to see the route 'lines' which will appear, then click on the 'line' where the arrow turns into a hand, and that should bring up the time-table.

If you have no, or little, understanding of Italian, you might be better off arranging this trip with the help of a travel agent. There are all sorts of pit falls if you're only guessing !

Thanks!

I think I may fly to Rome Fiumicino get a train to Roma Termini station and continue by train to Formia and catch the ferry to Ponza.

Now all that is left is to find a place to stay in Ponza.

All I want to do is go and experience the beauty of Ponza lol!

Thanks

I rang the ferry office for you and the service will now finish 15 September for the season from Anzio. So from Roma Termini to Formia there are two trains the IC plus and regional..IC plus take 1 hour and 6 minutes and costs 13 euro 2nd class and regional train take 1 hour and 23 minutes and costs 7,40 euro. You will enjoy Ponza, it will be quieter than peak season but no way as crowded ;-)

In general early October is still nice weather. I believe you will have good weather as you are going early October, not hot but warm by day, cool by night (light jacket for sure). Good to take the layer clothing as it changes (not the fixed four seasons it once once).
