National Holidays Tatse of Rome. WARNING***

National Holidays Taste of Rome WARNING!!!! WARNING** WARNING!!!

This holiday IS NOT suitable for children or old people. The first two and the last two FULL DAYS are spent on the coach. Sixteen hour and fourteen hour days. The Day Trip to Rome Takes four hours one way on the coach. Do not stay at the Casa Rossa hotel. Be prepared to miss meals.

THIS IS NOT A NICE HOLIDAY. Several people missed day trips due to travel related illness and fatigue.

DO NOT book this holiday unless you are fit and well. This Holiday is a true test of will power!! No to be taken lightly.

Indeed. A lot of these coach tours from the UK use spa towns like Montecatini Terme or Chianciano Terme as bases because there are hotel rooms galore at cheap rates (for the tour companies, not for you). They also see them as "central" locations for day trips to Florence, Rome, Pisa, tour of Tuscany, Umbria etc.

Butr as you say, Montecatini to Rome is a long day (Chianciano a bit less) so you must know what you are letting yourself in for.

Agree with what is said here but also as well as being a long journey to Rome, Pisa and Florence are not too bad in comparison, in summer the heat in Rome is insufferable. We were there last year and it reached 40c, too much for us even with bottles of water. All these long distance coach trips are for those who know what to expect, long hours travelling through various countryside that seem to merge into each other.

Value wise, hard to beat, if scenery is your thing then travelling through the UK, France, Switzerland and Italy you are in for a treat, unless its winter and dark then you wont see a thing. My wife and I love these trips and with the shorter trips in the UK, Mystery Trips (not so much of a mystery anymore as we sometimes guess where we are going lol) they are the mainstay of our holidays now. All round good value, as long as you don't mind coach journey's.

It doesn't sound like something I'd ever want to do, but if the tour operator delivered what they said they would, it's a bit on the consumer's shoulders to know what they are buying.

A few quick minutes of research would have told you ahead of time approximately how much time would be spent in the coach.

Your post sounds like a problem mostly between your unrealistic expecations and reality.

Now, if the hotel was not good or the food not up to par, that's a different story. But the towns have been where they are forever and the travel times are known.

"Your post sounds like a problem mostly between your unrealistic expecations and reality."

Not in the least elstravels, we have done this trip twice, once in winter once in summer and enjoyed them both immensely I was trying to point out that unless you like coach travel then this particular trip, and others of a similar distance maybe need thinking about.

My wife and I quite like the family like atmosphere after we all get to know each other, we even had drinks with fellow travellers in a rare moment of free time in Montecatini. We set off at 6:30am on a Sunday and after an overnight stay in France, a Campanile motel where some of us had a meal and a drink together, it was onward and ever onward.

The only problem with this trip is how tiring it can be even though you are sat down for long periods but having done Rome, Florence and Pisa twice its time to look at other places to see.
