Driving from Roma to Lecce late February

We are hiring a car late February and driving to Lecce via Matera. My Italian colleague thinks we might have to drive through snow. Does anyone know if this could happen? Being an Australian I'm not at all experienced in these conditions

Yes, it might happen, but you know weather is unpredictable.

If you are concerned about driving, you could always take the train from Lecce to Bari (both FSE and Ferrovia dello Stato cover that route). In Bari, switch to the Ferrovie Appulo Lucane train to go to Matera.
