We are a family of 6 Australian adults who have recently stayed for a week in the delightful village of Corvara. This is a fantastic area for skiing and a beautiful village for those who don't ski. The people speak German and Italian and some speak English as well. This village is high in the Dolomite region of Italy. The people are very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed the food which was representational of the local area.

Alta Badia is the top ski resort in Italy and no wonder. It is a paradise for skiers with 130km of groomed downhill runs covered by good snowmaking facilities.

Staying in Corvara was a great starting point to ski the Sellaronda, a skitour around the Sella massif. This skitour is very clearly signposted and can easily be skied in a day. It passes through the four Ladin valleys of Val Gardena ,Alta Badia , Val Di Fassa and Arraba. It mostly consists of intermediate runs with some easy runs so is suitable for intermediate skiers. It can be skied in both clockwise and anti clockwise directions. The views are fantastic.

Staying in Corvara was a wise move as the Col Alto gondola from the centre of the village takes you straight up to the ski bowl. from here there are lots of easy runs with fast chair lifts. The runs are wide and well groomed, the majority are easy, some are intermediate and a few are difficult for the expert skier. There are many long runs down to other villages such as San Cassiano which has a gondola straight up again. Along the runs are ski huts and restaruants - great olaces to eat with great local food all reasonably priced.

Also from Corvara it was easy to catch a lift to the neighbouring village of Colfoso where the skiing was also really good. There are a few gondolas at Colfosco.

Have a look at the ski maps on www.altabadia.org

Hi

thanks for nice report. Where exactly did you stay - which hotel or appartments? And what about snow? Was it ok?

Hi there, I have been researching Corvara for about two weeks and am having a fair bit of trouble finding information re transfers into the village, from either Milan or Verona. Do you have any suggestions? Also any advice on accommodation?

Would greatly appreciated any help you are able to give.

Thank you - Anne

Have booked a week in Corvara for February 2008. For the transfer we are using a taxi service based in Selva who we used last year, www.taxi-busgardena.com and they are picking us up from Milan Linate airport.

Corvara sounds perfect for my husband and I who are travelling to this area by car in early March. Can anyone suggest inexpensive hotels to check out?
