Rich - the beach side of Chioggia is at Sottomarina which is part of the same municipality.

A causeway links the historical part of Chioggia - Centro Storico - to

Sottomarina. Sottomarina is quite narrow , one side if on the Laguna and the beach side is on the Adriatic Sea side.

Sottomarina also has a Centro Storico.

The sea front is full of hotels as well as the streets immediately behind it.

Most of the hotels open seasonally and there are prices to suit varying tastes/pockets.

See the town web site for web cam pictures at www.chioggia.org.

For hotel listings giving acces to their web sites, prices and hotels' positions on map see www.sottomarina.net.

There are also details on camp sites, boarding houses ,etc.

Hope that this will be of help.

Rich - further info

on Chioggia -

it is a lovely town with canals and is very "lived -in Italian" compared to beautiful Venice.

In the summer , there are direct boats from Sottomarina/Chioggia to Venice that leave around 9am and return from Venice leaving around 5pm; Therefore, if you do not want to spend a lot of time in Venice , this could be a good choice.

Chioggia is a major North Italian Adriatic port - hence there is a great fish market ( except on Mondays ) every morning.

The food and vegetable market takes place along the very edge of the Canal Vena - a very picturesque/lovely canal ( not on Sundays).

There is a mixed market morning on Thursday in the main street/promenade called the Corso del Popolo - which abounds with caffés and restaurants.

There are also some very smart shops/boutiques for clothes both on the Chioggia side as well as on the Sottomarina side.

Ciao

Thank-you very much for the advice, I guess if the ferry only goes once a day then maybe the Lido is a better option, thanks anyway though!
