We visited this area of Italy as my husband was born in Ripa Teatina and we wanted to show our daughter and her partner where it all began.
We booked a car on the internet through Tiger Rentals that had an Avis office in Chieti for 94 Euro for 2 days. No we didn't get the alfa that we chose on the internet.
Driving to the village of Ripa Teatina was ok even though we were not used to the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the car...I did have white knuckles.
Anyhow, the area is lovely, the village had grown since I was last there 28 years ago. For my daughter it was great to meet the relatives and stay in the house of her great grandfather.
We visited Pescara as well. Went to a mall with a foodcourt there ( Wow...progress) . Pizza ,coffee and beer at the foodcourt was so cheap compared to those in the touristy Rome, Venice and Florence etc.
Visited the highlights of Ripa ( a small village on a hill with the steeple the highest point )....the church, the tower , the school as well as the Rocky Marciano statue....a must !...not forgetting to pass by the bar and be questioned as to who we were.....so great !
Another highlight was to eat in the homes of the relations....genuine pasta, meats and fresh vegies.....yum !!!
A great feeling but sad that next time we visit some of the older aunties and uncles may not be there.
A wonderful region to visit, but not many people speak English.
